What is a Student Shares Account?
Our new student account, Student Shares, is designed to receive and make personal electronic transactions. Depositors will have access to conduct fee-free debit transactions until they turn 25 years old, they must keep their account active at all times and opt to receive statements through the E-Statement program.
The Student Shares Account has no monthly charges, such as the $5 opening fee, $1.50 ATH service fee or $5 for paper statements.
Who can open a Student Shares Account?
The Student Shares account aims to offer a low-cost service for individuals who are approaching or have started post-secondary studies.
Requirements
To open an account, the individual must present one of the following documents:
- Present one of the following:Class schedule, enrollment confirmation, acceptance letter, student ID, or VIP card from VAPR Federal Credit Union.
- The required age to open the account ranges from 16 to 25 years old.
- If the student is between the ages of 16 and 17, the account must be opened by their parents or legal guardian. Through the account agreement, parents or guardians agree that the funds deposited into the student account will be for the benefit of the minor.
Required Deposit
Any student who meets the membership requirements for the “Student Shares” account can open an account at VAPR FCU with only $25.00. If they are not within the membership field of their school, they will have to pay the PVA fees of $20, for a total of $45.

To join our credit union you must bring the following documents:
- Photo identification (License or Passport)
- $50.00 for initial deposit
Regular share (savings) accounts carry no monthly fee. In the checking account there will be no monthly charges as long as you maintain a minimum balance of five hundred dollars ($500.00). If you do not have this balance then a charge of four dollars ($4.00) will be applied monthly.
